Hi Terry,

I liked your article. I live in Placida and spend a lot of time on the same islands that you talked about. I've got an old windsurfer, and I enjoy sailing around gasparilla pass. I haven't taken it down to Cayo Costa yet, as I usually go by boat.

Awsome!
Your making me yearn for the water. I've always wanted to try kyaking and this is the perfect way to sneek in a bit of windsurfing and paddling. It's absolutly perfect for my ADHD. If I get bored with one, I can do the other. This is gonna be my new board/boat when and where can I purchase?

As I remember, reading Laurie Nadel's book, "Dancing With the Wind", is almost as good as time on the water. An example from page 288: "Like the art of finessing the wind, the art of finessing the written word requires that the practitioner practice an economy of energy. Too much movement or verbiage can cause one to flail, on a rather unstable platform."

Thank you, Trey, for your articles which prompted the compliment from Laurie Nadel, which now prompts me to recognize I want to read her book again. I hope you find a copy and are able to give yourself the treat of reading, "Dancing With The Wind."

This is a really impressive board. I am currently designing a longboard myself. It is not for the same application, but has some similarities. I live in Largo and would love to get the chance to try it out and discuss some ideas.

Yagon,
I am glad you like the Expedition Windsurfer concept. It has been a real blast to combine three sports that I love so much, windsurfing, kayaking and standup paddling into one neat package. I hope to get some of these boards into production so I can share the fun.
To answer your question about safety and camping gear; To avoid taking up a lot of space here I would recommend you follow the guidelines set out for the WaterTribe Everglades Challenge. You can find that website here: www.watertribe.com. Look in the rules section for the Everglades Challenge and look in the magazine section as well. Anything you ever wanted to know will be there. If you follow those guidelines you will be in great shape. I will post some of my observations using the EXP Windsurfer in the future.
Great Adventures,
Trey

Laurie,
Thanks you for your words of encouragement. I am flattered and humbled that you would find my story of interest. I have not been very confident in my writing skills, so it means a lot coming from a writer such as yourself.
I remember when your book was released but never got around to reading it. After looking it up on Amazon I purchased it. I hope that someday our paths might cross and you would sign my copy.
Hope you can get to Florida sometime and try the Expedition Windsurfer out.
Great Adventures,
Trey

Inspirational! A great adventure. I hope to undertake a similar voyage one day.

Can you provide some information about the camping/safety equipement that you carried? I would be most interested.

PS. I like your board.

You are my hero! I would have loved to be able to take a windsurfing trip like the one you described. It has been a few years since I have been able to windsurf but your story made me feel as if I was on the board with you.

My windsurfing memoir, "Dancing with the Wind: A True Story of Zen in the Art of Windsurfing" is now out of print but you can find an old copy on amazon.com used books.

Keep windsurfing...and keep writing!
